DISEC
Chair of DISEC ╴Dominic Yeh
Dear Delegates,
On behalf of National Taipei University and Island Model United Nations 2016, I am delighted to welcome you to the Disarmament and International Security Committee. My name is Dominic Yeh and I will be your chair with the help of two distinguished co-chairs, Lambert and Christine. Lambert majors in the Department of Economics, where as Christine majors in Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics. Both minored in the Department of Finance. As for myself, I study Communication Engineering. And we're all sophomores at National Taipei University.
My experience with Model United Nations started about the same time it was born, when I was still in high school in the States. Over the years, it was the vision and the connection MUN conferences offers that attracted me and continues to inspire me. On the surface, MUN may seem tedious and boring with all the rules, procedures and dress codes. But when you actually start to take part in the debates and start putting out ideas, you'd be surprised how much you can learn and benefit from it. MUN conferences allow you to reach out to other delegates, exchanging ideas and excel together. Still the best part, to me, is making a lot more friends !!
It's an honor and my privilege to serve as your chair. The selected topics this year may be a little challenging, for it covers a lot of factors and requires all of you to think from all its aspects. Nonetheless, I have nothing but confidence in your abilities to address them comprehensively, decisively, and, most of all, logically. Your Dias will be with you all the way throughout the conference. We look forward seeing you in this years IMUN Youth 2016 and plan on inspiring you the way MUN inspired us. See you soon !!
Best,
Dominic Yeh

ECOSOC
Chair of ECOSOC – Joey Wei
Dear Delegates,
It is my honor and privilege to welcome you to the United Nations Economic and Social Council at Island Model United Nations Youth 2016! My name is Joey Wei, a rising junior majoring in Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics at National Taipei University. Along with me are Melody Su, a rising sophomore in Accountancy, and Coco Kan, a rising sophomore in Sociology. We are all humbled to serve as your chair this year.
I have begun my MUN career since I was a freshman in high school and competed at the High School Model United Nations conference. Since then, I started to participate in various MUN conferences including PAMUN, TMUN, IMUN, and NSMUN. I was truly overwhelmed by the serious debates and diligent works among delegates, and these experiences have propelled me to get to know more about international relations and hone my model UN skills.
ECOSOC provides delegates with the unique opportunity to tackle important issues that are not normally discussed on an international scale. In this committee, we will work on two possible topics. Topic A is “Climate Change in Least Developed Countries” and topic B is “Migrant Labor around the Mediterranean Sea.” Both topics are highly relevant to the current international issue, sustainable development and European migrant crisis. Therefore, during this conference I expect delegates to come up with innovative ideas and comprehensive resolutions with guidelines that will protect our world for years to come.
IMUN Youth is a place for you to get a new confidence in yourself, enhance understanding of the world, meet lifelong friends, and have unforgettable experiences. We will definitely work hard in our committee and engage in very substantive debate. Overall, I hope we all have a fun and great time.
Best,
Joey Wei
